Kim
Muller-Thym, an accomplished oil painter, studied art at the Maryland
Institute College of Art, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and the Instituto
de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico, and with the Plein Air Painters of
America. Her work has been exhibited in numerous one person and
juried shows; she is represented in galleries from Connecticut to
Virginia.
As a young person raised on a farm in Maryland, Muller-Thym
spent her free time roaming the woods and fields and sailing the
Chesapeake Bay. Living now in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, she paints New
England’s incredibly beautiful and ever changing coast.
Since becoming affiliated with neighboring Old Lyme’s
renowned center for early American impressionists, Muller-Thym has
increased her focus on representational painting. She often paints small
plein air studies, which she uses for inspiring works up to five feet. Her
works are rich with feeling and broad strokes of color.
Kim Muller-Thym is an artist with varied interests and
proficiency in several media. She has created and taught art her
entire life: sculpture, ceramics, painting and graphic design. She has
degrees in German literature and psychology; and her professional
experience includes thirty years of journalism and publication design. She
is a member of the Lyme Art Association and the Salmagundi Club in
Manhattan.
Kim received the John Stobart Award
presented at The Mystic Seaport International Art Show in 2006 and the Harriet Lumis
Award at the The Academic Artists Association National Exhibition of
Contemporary Realism in 2007 and Salmagudi Art Club in 2009.
